York Scout & Guide Gang Show is open to all members (aged 8 years and above) of the Scouting Districts of York Ebor and York Minster and to the members of Girlguiding North Yorkshire South.
The main shows are held every two years at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre, York with, in the intervening years, a Gang Show in a Weekend.
York Gang Show first performed in 1938 and 1939 however regular shows did not re-commence until the 1960s and they have continued ever since.
Currently the cast for a show can number 70-80 with an equivalent number working behind the scenes. Anyone who wishes to can take part whatever their ability (there are no auditions). Involvement in Gang Show requires commitment but it also teaches skills in drama, dancing, singing and encourages teamwork.
